HC suspends sentence, grants bail to DEO | | | Early Times report Jammu, Apr 19 : The High Court today suspended the sentence awarded by anti-corruption court and granted bail to Muhamamd Yusuf Kohli former District Education Officer, Poonch. Yusuf was awarded 9 years imprisonment and fine Rs 2,70, 000 in nine corruption cases. Justice JP Singh after hearing Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocate Waheed Choudhary appearing for the appellant, whereas Advocate General MI Qadiri with Adv Sarishti Pal Mengi appearing for the state respondents, admitted appeal to hearing and issued notice to respondents. Advocate General accepted notice.Court further observed that the appellant is stated to have been on dialysis when he was taken into custody pursuant to the order of sentence passed by Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu. The document placed by the appellant revealed that he was suffering from CRFESRD and was under regular Renal Clinic Follow UP. Therefore, keeping in view the quantum of sentence awarded to appellant and the illness from which he has been suffering, it is considered appropriate to suspend his sentence during hearing in the appeal enabling him to have requisite medical treatment. The sentence awarded to him on April 16, 2012 is suspended and he is ordered to be released on bail on depositing 50% of fine imposed by the Trial Court and furnishing of personal bonds and surety bonds in the amount of Rs 10,000 to satisfaction of Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu.
