| Ulma’s condemn Waqff action, demands restoration of land | | | Poonch | Jan 27 The Ulma’s and residents all the four tehsils of Poonch border district have strongly condemned the action of Waqff board wherein the allotted land for construction of Jamia Masjid was cancelled. In a statement issued here today the Ulma’s said that the land was allotted for the construction of Chandek Jamia Masjid some were in nineties. “After the gap of more than twenty years it was cancelled for no reason” said a local Moulvi. Statement said, after Friday prayers, the Ulma’s of all the four tehsils assembled at their respective tehsil head quarter and threaten the government if the decision of cancellation was not revoked, they will launch an agitation. “It is height of things that Waqff which is meant for the welfare of the Muslims, particularly for maintaining the property of Waqaf-i-Islamia” said a local resident adding that the Waqff property is deemed to be the prosperity of Muslim Uma. The land, they said can be allotted for the construction of Masjid, Darsgah or for the purpose of religious functions. They have appealed to Chief Minister and Minister for Waqff to personally look into the matter. “As per the Muslim personal law, anything once donated for the Masjid can never be taken back” said a local Ulma, alleging government is unnecessarily harassing the Muslims of this far-flung district.
