Govt's hypocrisy or waking up to pressure of boycott….? | Temple Bill Ordinance | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 19: It sounds hypocritical that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has suddenly sounded alarm and urgency over Temples and Shrines Bill by bringing about an Ordinance after discussing it in the Cabinet anytime soon now. The irony is that Government is showing such sense of urgency and trying to show that it is not only sincere but also concerned over the issue, perhaps more than the community itself whereas the fact remains it actually simply chose to ignore and put it in the dust bin in the Assembly session which concluded just 10 days back. Is the Chief Minister unaware that the whole Kashmiri Pandit community which raised loud cry and clamour for over last two months pressing hard for passage of the Bill during Budget session ….? Or he simply woke up to the demand and protest most of the Apex Community members demonstrated by staying away from the meeting on Wednesday over this issue besides other pending and unsettled matters. It is widely known that so many KP organizations and Prem Nath Memorial Trust remained on the forefront of protests against delay in passage of the Bill which could guarantee proper management besides protection of the religious places from encroachers and land grabbers. Much before the commencement of Assembly session the KP leaders called on a number of politicians from various parties besides the Government representatives including Law and Parliamentary Minister, Finance Minister and urged them for enacting a law while explaining the status of many such places where damage has been done on many fronts. Government never said no but instead kept the community in dark till last day of the session, much to the shock and disappointment of the community and those who kept raising the issue outside the Assembly. Few MLAs from opposition did show some signs of concern and sympathy but this did not work and fell on deaf ears of the coalition . The community felt humiliated and once again let down by the political elite including the Government. Notwithstanding the CM's remarks over most of the members staying away from the meeting yesterday, it is actually this absence which became conspicuous and forced the Government to realize and wake up to burning issues over which it has chosen to sleep over, for whatever reasons and compulsions. The Government has responded to the burning demand but it remains to be seen when and under how it would now honour its own commitment on bringing about an Ordinance. |
