| 'RPM' to held from today at Press Club | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 20: A two-day Regional Parents' meet (RPM) is going to be held from April 21-22 at the Jammu Press Club Jammu with an objective to create awareness among the parents of persons with intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities) and the society in general about the problems of persons born with these conditions.
According to organizers, there is a huge population of more than 3% of such people in the country and the state of Jammu and Kashmir is no exception to it. "There is need of massive effort on the part of the Govt. and the society at large to provide measures of relief and rehabilitation to this large section of population, a statement said.
The statement said that with this in view, nearly half century ago, the parents took the initiative in their own hands to create these facilities for their children with the above conditions and bound themselves in parents' associations. |
