Dogri Sanstha presents memorandum to Governor | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 20: A deputation of the Dogri Sanstha Jammu, called on Governor N. N. Vohra, at Raj Bhavan here today and presented a memorandum of their demands to him. The main demand presented by the deputation, led by Prof. Lalit Magotra, President, Dogri Sanstha, related to the setting up of a Dogri Research Centre at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) for the promotion of Dogri language, linguistics and culture and undertaking comparative studies of Dogri, Gojri, Pahari and Kashmiri languages; preparation of Dogri-Gojri-Pahari-Kashmiri dictionary; conducting dialectical survey of Dogri and study of folk-ballads and folk-tales in Dogri, Gojri, Pahari, Kashmiri, Punjabi and Rajasthani languages. Interacting with the deputa tionists, the Governor referred to the need for revival and documentation of folk culture in all its forms, observing that these are an important aspect of any civilization which should be effectively preserved and promoted. He said that comparative studies of various languages are important for various reasons, including the promotion of linguistics and phonetics. The Governor, who is Chancellor of the SMVDU, gave a patient hearing to the deputationists and assured that he would have a very early look at their demands. The deputation comprised Pradyuman Singh Jandrahia, Vice President; Prof. Veena Gupta, General Secretary and Prof. Nilambar Dev Sharma, Member Executive Committee of the Dogri Sanstha. Navin Kumar Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, was present on the occasion. |
