Jammu, Apr 20: Were the tiny tots studying in Government schools forced to line up in long queues for hours on Dayalachack-Billawar road to "welcome" Congress stalwart and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday noon?
Answer is simply yes.
While Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Zahida Khan in a precise reply, "denied to have any knowledge of the said road show and maintained that at least she has not given any such permission to allow school students to leave their studies and stand on the roadside," the concerned Chief Education Officer, Kathua as well as Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Tehsil Billawar were not available for comments despite repeated attempts by Early Times.
It is pertinent to mention here that on Wednesday, former Chief Minister and sitting Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad along with a battery of senior Congress Ministers of the State including Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand had visited Phinter area in Billawar and addressed a massive rally organized by Minister of State for Cooperative Societies, Manohar Lal. In order to present a picture that entire Billawar belt have allegiance with Congress party and particularly with Azad group, school students of number of Government and private schools dressed up in their respective uniforms were made to stand on roadside to "welcome" Azad.
Besides, students, even the Government teachers, Head Masters and Principals were also seen accompanying students and raising slogans in favour of Ghulam Nabi Azad. Who permitted them or on whose instructions such road shows were organized is still an unanswered query, which, no body will like to answer for obvious reasons.
"It was inhumane as Azad's cavalcade was late by at least two hours and small school children were made to line up in queues since Wednesday morning and were asked to raise slogans in favour of Congress and Ghulam Nabi Azad. It was not just a particular point but almost after every few kms such big line-up of school students was visible on the roadside with vehicular movement including that of over loaded vehicles carrying Congress workers and heavy vehicles moving to and fro from Dhar Road in full swing," shared some of the eyewitnesses further adding that "the school students including the tiny tots were made to remain stand on the roadside for at least three hours."
Small children were asked to raise slogan like Ghulam Nabi Azad Zindabad. When this Correspondent asked a Primary class student studying in Class 2, who is Azad, the reply was straight that "I don't know, my teacher asked to say so."
"It was also the fact that three Congress workers died in a road accident. The deceased were on way to mark their presence in the party rally. Had there been any sort of such incident on the road where the students were standing, who would have taken the responsibility? Well, No one. Government as well as all the political parties must desist from such ideas," pointed out another local persons hailing from Hamdana village in Billawar, Tehsil. |
