| Mustafa's latest "fatwa" on PDP, Azad | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 21: Whether ideas chase senior National Conference leader, Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, or he is hunting for new ideas is not as important as the content of his ideas is. Kamaal had built a reputation of being the most reticent, sober and seasoned politician who would refrain from commenting on any issue under the sky even when he was asked to comment. However, during the last over six months Kamaal has experienced major transformation. He is no longer reticent. He is no longer reluctant in commenting on any issue, political, economic, comic or melodramatic, even if he is not asked for his comment. The latest incident of killing of one police ASI in interior of Srinagar has provoked Mustafa Kamaal to place the blame for the incident on the shoulders of the main opposition PDP. In doing so Kamaal has a strange logic to support his charge. He says since the PDP is frustrated it is trying to destabilise the Omar led Government adding that the PDP had provided necessary kit, including the motorbikes, to the youths for indulging in stone pelting in the summer of 2010. Since Mustafa is seen flying on the wings of "ideas" if not on the wings of "poesy" he has, in the same breath, raised an accusing finger against the security forces for the incident on the plea that they (security forces) are opposed to withdrawal of AFSPA and the security bunkers. Thank God Mustafa has spared the Army this time though by blaming the security forces for the incident Mustafa does not seem to be prepared to exclude the Army. On October 25,2011 Mustafa Kamaal had held the Army responsible for the four grenade explosions in Srinagar on the plea that since the Army authorities were opposed to the withdrawal of the AFSPA they had engineered the grenade attacks to stall the AFSPA revocation process. This statement resulted in a furore in Jammu and Kashmir and in New Delhi besides in the Army circles forcing the NC President, Dr Farooq Abdullah, to drop Mustafa as party spokesman and additional general secretary. And the same Farooq Abdullah has reinstalled his brother as the additional general secretary of the NC. If Mustafa's out of cuff comments attract attention it is not because he is the additional general secretary of the NC but on account of being the younger brother of Farooq Abdullah and uncle of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal is the one and the only NC leader who likes to enjoy in full form the benefits and advantages, better to call disadvantages, of freedom of speech. The other day he held the Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, responsible for moves aimed at weakening and maligning the NC led Government. This time Mustafa was provoked by Azad's candid confession on poor performance of the NC led Government. Azad had stated that a number of development projects have not been completed and while comparing the development activities during three years when he headed the Government with the work progress during the last three years Azad has found glaring irregularities. Mustafa wanted Azad to raise these issues either in the coordination committee or with the Chief Minister. He held Azad guilty of weakening the Chief Minister. The fact is that Azad has been supporting Omar and he is the one senior Congress leader who has prevailed upon the Congress high command to desist from carrying out any change of guard in Jammu and Kashmir. Is Mustafa's comments an observation or a "fatwa" from him? Only Kamaal can explain. |
