| Mehbooba flays Sinha’s statement on self-rule | | | Jammu | Jan 27 Reacting over statement of Governor Lt-Gen Retd SK Sinha that Jammu and Kashmir was enjoying maximum self-rule as compared to other states in the country, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti on saturday said, "had it been so we would not have deployed seven lakh army men in the state.She aslo clarified that her party has not borrowed slogan of self rule from Pakistani President General Pervez Mushraff and asked President Musharaff. to apply self-rule in POK and other frontier areas. Mehbooba said, if two neighboring countries India and Pakistan can work out joint mechanism in areas such as environment, tourism,hydro power, cultural exchanges the same will not undermine soverignity of any country. Mehbooba was interacting with mediamen here at her residence in Jammu before lunch on saturday. During her informal interaction with group of mediapersons, Mehbooba also stressed that New Delhi and Islamabad needed to move beyond the present political arrangement in two parts of Jammu and Kashmir to resolve the issue of Kashmir and fulfill the aspirations of people in all the regions. She dubbed slogan of autonomy while comapring it with her partys self-rule.They(NC) didn't take people in Jammu and Ladakh in to confidence before drafting their Autonomy but in our case we have been meeting people across the three regions of the state to evolve consensus on the proposal, she said. She said any dialogue process would become purposeful only when economic,political and emotional benefits reach ground level ensuring well being of the masses.She said unification of Jammu and Kashmir is a dream of comman masses and her party is working to realize this dream. She envisaged silk route be christened as petroleum route to give boost to trade activity in the region and hoped that free trade between Jammu and Kashmir and areas in Pakistan occupied Kashmir should become a reality to bring economic prosperity in the region. She said during their meetings with Prime Minister of India DrManmohan Singh they were stressing upon the need to start exchange programme between elected representatives on both sides of the line of control to give thrust to t he peace process.
