| Eye opener for opposition is really eye opener for NC | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 22: The conferring of the Prime Minister's award for excellence in Public administration to top State officials including the Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal and DGP Kuldeep Khuda is being unnecessarily connected by the NC with its own performance.
The NC has started patting its own back for something the senior most civil servants in Jammu and Kashmir have done in the line of their duty. Conducting the Panchayat elections successfully is definitely an administrative effort that needs to be commended and recognized, but one fails to understand how the same has to be linked with the ruling party in the State?
If the conduct and success of the last Panchayat elections had been an exclusive success of the NC the awards would have been conferred on the NC leadership and not on the civil servants who got them.
The state issued by the provincial spokesman of the NC, Sajad Ahmed Kichloo today tried desperately to somehow link the success of the civil servants with the success of the NC or at least to convey an impression as if the administration and the ruling party are nothing but the two sides of the same coin. Kichloo must perhaps issue another statement to clarify whether he believes that the NC and the administration in the State are exactly one and the same thing.
Another important point mentioned in the statement made by the provincial spokesman is that, "the successful conduct of Panchayat elections in the state was an eye opener for all those who have unleashed a disinformation campaign against the state government and were trying to misguide the general masses for their own vested interests".
If the NC spokesman has the PDP in mind then he must remember that the PDP not only fully participated in those elections giving them a truly democratic credibility, but also won a laudable number of those elections.
Kichloo has also spoken of the empowerment of the people through the Panchayat elections at the grassroots level. If getting slapped by middle rung public servants or being shown the door by BDOs and other block level officials is empowerment then the elected Panches and Sarpanches have been truly 'empowered'.
Perhaps realizing quickly that empowerment of the elected Panches and Sarpanches cannot really take place unless the constitutional amendments 73rd and 74th are adopted by the state, the NC spokesman added, "Empowerment cannot be done overnight as it is a continuous process".
Referring to the "misinformation campaign unleashed by the opposition", Kichloo said that PDP should explain to the people as why it failed to create the institution in the state when it was in power.
Doesn't the NC spokesman know of the tremendous contribution made by the PDP during its short tenure in power which has made it possible for the NC-Congress coalition to hold the Panchayat elections?
The NC-Congress coalition is already more than three years old in the power and yet it has not come out of the PDP paranoia it has been living under since long. It is time the NC started taking stock of its own performance critically rather than blame the PDP for the failures and follies it has been committing since it came to power after the 2008 assembly elections. |
