| End terror to promote cordial ties | | | We want to root out terrorism because Pakistan suffers more from terrorism than any other country in the world. "This is a quotable quote from Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar. The petite Khar is not wrong. She is correct to the dot because even after exporting terror to India, at one stage, the establishment in Islamabad and to be specific its Army and the ISI created conditions which proved to be conducive for terrorists of various hues to multiply in Pakistan. What Pakistan tried to sow seeds of terrorism thinking that once the seeds grew into plants they will be exported to other countries, mainly to India. For all these 25 years neither the establishment in Islamabad nor its Army nor its ISI knew the Biblical lore "as you sow so shall you reap." If between 1980 and 1994 Pakistan went on sowing the seeds of terrorism it had no other alternative but to fall prey to terrorism, to extremism,to fundamentalism and to the cult of Talibans and the Al Qaeda.
For years together even Washington continued to goad Islamabad to initiate measures that could end the presence and proliferation of terrorist outfits, especially the Talibans who had entrenched themselves in the Swat valley,Waziristan and other belts on Pakistan -Afghanistan border. On occasions Washington conveyed to Islamabad its willingness to support Pakistan in its counter militancy operations which Islamabad did not accept. If people like Osama bin Laden, who lived in Pakistan at the time he was killed by the US forces,or Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, founder of drea-ded Lashkar-i-Toiba and others have been able to build a sizeable number of their followers and established equally dreaded organisations like the T alibans and the Al Qaeda it is all because of the moral, material,political and logistic support they received from the establishment in Islamabad, its Army and the ISI. During the last several years Islamabad has been denying any Pakistan hand behind the activities of militants in some Indian states including Jammu and Kashmir.
Now Hina Rabbani Khar pleads in favour of resumption of dialogue saying she is happy that India and Pakistan are back on the dialogue table to sort out issues between the two nations. If she is keen to promote cordial ties why does not her Government concede some of the basic demands put forth by India which includes action against perpetrators, including Hafiz Saeed, of the 2008 Mumbai attack and sealing of the arms training camps in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir. Yes, when compared to her immediate predecessor, S.M. Qureshi, Hina Rabbani Khar seems to be quite keen for building bridges with India and she reiterated this commitment the other day when she said that Pakistan is eager to promote friendship with its immediate neighbours. She explained that Pakistan cannot afford to be selective in promoting cordial ties with its neighbours. Pakistan wants,as she put it,friendly ties with all its neighbours, including India, Afghanistan, China and Iran. It can be a two-way traffic. Hina cannot expect India to open the channels of dialogue if Pakistan's soil continued to be used for exporting terror to India. Hence end terrorism in the interest of cordial ties. |
