Police to start drive against SIM card distributors

JAMMU, Apr 23: With many of the mobile SIM card distributors ignoring the norms set by Home Department for issuing new connections, Police has decided to start a special drive against distributors in the state who are defying the rules.
The Union Home Ministry has already given two warnings to the telecom companies and had directed the agencies in state to re-verify the customer's documents so that anti- national elements could not misuse of pre- paid SIM cards, telecom companies are still not following the norms.
It is pertinent to mention here that police was given the task to go for random check of subscribers to ascertain whether the SIM is used by a genuine person or is in the hands of subversive elements. The new mobile connections will be issued only against documents having photographs of the customers and at the end of every month; a list of fresh connections would be submitted to state police. Interestingly that time police have been not done their task given by Union Home Ministry. According to police officials, the department has not been completed their task. The police department has received some complaints regarding issuing SIM cards. "In some cases, a single person had been issued with multiple number of connections. The fake documents number are also reportedly being used by the vendors" he added. Sources further said that in case of pre-paid connections that situation had given rise to serious security concerns. The police department will start a drive to check of documents of issuing SIM cards as soon as possible.
Sources said that the distributors also selling SIM cards without properly check the documents and two SIM cards issued on a name. He also said that the government not taking step against these people who black the SIM cards in the markets with fake documents due to this common masses will face a lot of problems.
When contacted, SSP Jammu Parbhat Singh said that, the police department will check the entire matter of verification of issued prepaid SIM cards. He further said then the department will take step against those prepaid distributers.
