Jammu to have Convention Centre on pattern of SKICC

early times report
Jammu, Apr 24: The cabinet meeting which was scheduled to meet be held tomorrow has now been postponed by a day and is likely to be convened day after tomorrow due to non availability of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and some ministers who are on tour to various places . Apart from the much speculative major reshuffle in both administration and police department that has been in circulation for some days, the only confirmed agenda in the cabinet meeting so far is revival of plan to have a Convention Centre in Jammu on the pattern of SKICC in Srinagar. Sources said that finally the plan which has been executed partially for having an international level Convention Centre in the winter capital will get through after the cabinet gives its formal approvale in the meeting fixed on April 26, a day before civil secretariat and other offices close in Jammu for Durbar Move. Sources said the proposal was abandoned for lack of adequate funds with the state government , it being a huge project that will incur huge expenditure . However, the land has been identified for the construction of the Convention Centre and it will be built on the pattern of SKICC in Srinagar. This will be first of its kind in the winter capital and therefore beneficial in many ways , sources said. Cabinet will meet before closure of the offices in the winter capital as a matter of ritual , sources said adding that though there are speculations galore about a major reshuffle in police and civil administration on cards in the state, it may not happen so soon as almost entire state machinery including ministers and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is busy with the tour spree, these days in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. Some more ministers are busy in giving final shape to the political activities in respective constituencies , something which is normal and a routine before shifting of offices from Jammu to Srinagar. However , it cannot be completely ruled out that the meet will not take up anything on transfers and fresh postings , said the sources , as there are many posts vacant or being run by bureaucrats with additional charge , in the wake of retirement of some officers at the higher level and in middle rung administration. "Since some posts are at the highest level , it needs serious consideration by the ministers as to who would be posted next on these…..as such we have not given any thought as of now since most of the ministers are busy with other things", said a senior minister, hinting that it might be effected in Srinagar once the offices re open there next month. It is pertinent to mention that the posts of Financial Commissioner Revenue and Secretary Cooperative are falling vacant by the end of this month as two senior bureaucrats RK Jerath and GR Bhagat are reaching superannuation. The reshuffle as and when it takes place will see a new Commissioner in the Health and Medical Education, a psot which is being looked after as additional charge by Tanvir Jahan.
