Holier Than The Cow Role: The Dangerous Fifth Column | Commotion in K Hindus Camp | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 24: The outright rejection by various sections of internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus of the meeting between a Hurriyat and a group of Kashmiri Hindus seems to have irked some participants more than others. While the majority of the Hindu participants seem to have undertaken to be part of the meeting for "exploratory reasons to find out first hand the response of the Hurriyat leaders", as per the admissions by them to their close confidants some of whom spoke to this correspondent, a few of them seem to be part of this exercise as if they are "fulfilling a revolutionary task". Their responses to the condemnation by their own community of their act have made them to adopt very intimidatory postures. One such individual former Jammu University's Professor of Economic as per information available called one of the prominent Kashmiri Hindu ladies who had participated in the joint press conference recently and almost "threatened her that more action may unfold after the elections of KP Sabha Amphalla are over". The said Professor became the president of the Sabha after the demise of TN Khosa. It is said that the Professor has been "campaigning for KK Khosa as the new president of the Sabha". This seems to have put Khosa in a very precarious position because there is a perceptible resentment against the said Professor amongst the Kashmiri Hindus who have started "identifying him as the first Kashmiri Hindu member of the Hurriyat" and this is effecting the election campaign/canvassing. This perception seems to have been created by the unconfirmed reports that the Professor "went overboard to woo the support of Hurriyat leaders" and went even to the extent of telling them that "Kashmiri Hindus would have supported their cause if the separatist leaders had taken them into their confidence". Seen as one of the few faculty members of Jammu University who would always identify with pro-Kashmir and anti- Jammu decision while in service, the said Professor's activities are not any surprise as per many of his erstwhile colleagues. The new candidate for the president's post of KP Sabha, Khosa has a task cut out for him to woo his agitated voters. This is more so because he had also in the past tried to join NC as well as PDP and many believe that, "if elected, he may play a worse role". This gentleman had tried to distance form his earlier flirtations with NC and PDP during Amarnath agitation and had a taste of the resentment of his previous role when Hindus from Kashmir as well as Jammu resented to his appointment as the spokesman of the agitating body for the reclamation of the land allotted to Amarnath Yatra. During their visit to Valley to meet Hurriyat Conference, the Kashmir Hindu group had to make a visit to one of the transition camps for the newly appointed Kashmiri Hindu employees to pacify the growing disillusionment, particularly among the women there. The Professor seems to have again counseled the ladies, as per reports, in a way that to some of them it appeared to be "frank intimidation". There is already a dilemma in the BJP and Sangh Parivaar in Jammu whether to keep owning those pro-active members of the group that met Hurriyat who are recognized to be RSS activists or proteges. Already the Jammu branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Vichar Manch, an RSS outfit, has become very critical of the meeting with Hurriyat. The Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust, which has been spearheading the Kashmiri Hindu Temple Shrine Bill, had to distance from the activities of the group which met Hurriyat leaders. They had to do this to douse the growing opposition within its ranks. BL Saraf, who participated in the Hurriyat meet, has also been a vocal participant in the meetings of JK Vichar Manch. The intimidatory responses by the likes of the Professor also seem to be having roots in the encouragement of the pro-separatist establishment within the Government. The holier than the cow attitude in favour of the separatist objectives has created a potential for hogging new limelight which they seem to be grabbing with both hands. |
