Jammu | Jan 27
Amid chaos and uproar in the Legislative Assembly, main opposition National conference today grilled government over the attacks on tourists during last summer in Srinagar, terming it a political conspiracy within the coalition.
Making a scathing attack on Government while raising a series of supplementaries on a Question by Yogesh Swaney during Question hour in Legislative Assembly , Opposition leader A R Rather said that the attacks were a part of ‘leg pulling’ rampant within the coalition ‘to let partners down’.
Referring to the last year’s incident when a boy was caught red handed by people while throwing grenade on a tourist bus, he said not only the matter was hushed up but the accused was released within two months for unknown reasons.
Accusing the government of sitting on the matter, he said, “Jammu and Kashmir have been an abode of peace and harmony and people here are not going to take on the blame of attacking their guests”.
After Tourism Minister Dillawar Mir failed to satisfy them, other members of the National Conference also gathered near the front row and demanded a clear statement from the government.
Terming the attacks on tourists as a political conspiracy, Ali Mohammad Sagar said Mirwaiz Umer Farooq had questioned the release of the boy caught while throwing grenade in Jamia Masjid adding that “we also want to know the political affiliation of the boy and on whose instance he has committing the act”
Earlier, Dr Mehboob Beg while describing the attacks as most unfortunate said that during last seventeen years of violence a section has developed vested interest which want to thrive on the ‘abnormal Kashmir’ and is hampering the restoration of ‘normal kashmir’. He wanted to know about the fate of the person from Himachal caught at Dalgate while throwing grenade on a Tourist Bus.
Despite the repeated attempts by the Speaker, to pacify the opposition, the NC members continued their attack on government leading to a commotion.
The uproar created by the opposition forced the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to intervene who admitted that there have been several incidents of attacks on the tourists from past so many years adding that however, there was a steep increase in such incidents during last year.
While denying involvement of any outsider in the attacks, Chief Minister said that 40 persons involved in attacks on tourists have been arrested since the government announced an award of Rs one Lakh for providing any information on this account.
He however, said that the information about the boy caught red handed by people would be provided on the day fixed for grants for Home Department during the current session of the House.
