Sufi renditions, bhajans light up musical evening

JAMMU, Apr 25: GWC Auditorium, Gandhi Nagar provided the perfect stage, the right ambience and an appreciative audience in a pleasant journey into the world of Sufi renditions, classical songs and bhajan's this evening.
Noted singers Kailash Mehra, Meenakshi Pra sad and Mukteshi Shar ma, enthralled Sufi ana and classical music lovers to an array of mesmerising numbers, one after the other at the musical evening organised by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The audience in the 3,00-seater hall, filled to capacity, greeted the singers with a thundering round of applause. The programme started with a Saraswati vandana by Mukteshi Sharma. This was followed by a Sufiana rendition by her, which evoked huge audience appreciation. Soon to follow was an array of songs by Kailash Mehra. She sang in Urdu and Dogri. The musical evening culminated with serene renditions of Bhajans and Sufi songs by Delhi based renowned Indian singer, Meenakshi Prasad. Before the curtains went up, Kailash said she was happy to be among true music lovers. A candid Meenakshi Prasad expressed happiness on having been invited to Jammu for a vocal music concert. She thanked the Academy for extending an invitation to her. The chief guest, minister for tourism and culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora., was all praise for the Academy, which made all out efforts in organising the vocal music concert. Praising the voice of teenage singer, Mukteshi Sharma, the minister said that the Academy should keep on encouraging young and talented singers like her. The audience appreciated all the songs with perfectly timed applause. Besides other dignitaries, commissioner secretary, tourism and culture and secretary Academy, Atal Dulloo, and former secretary Academy, Prof. Rita Jitendra also graced the delightful musical evening. Academy's additional secretaries, Savita Bakshi and Sham ima Akhter were also present on the occasion.
