Minister's brother booked in assault case
4/26/2012 12:24:56 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 25: Kalakote police today said they had booked a brother of MLA and Minister Rashpal Singh in an assault case.
He was identified as Ranjit Singh. When contacted, Kalakote police station SHO, Inspector KD Bhagat, however, denied the involvement of Rashpal's other brother Romeshwar Singh in the incident.
Ranjit was alleged to have assaulted villagers protesting encroachment of State land and felling of green trees. The Minister has already termed the incident as a case of handiwork of political opponents.
Police sources said the alleged assault took place when residents of Sair and Chainpur villages were protesting at the Kalakote tehsil office on April 18 last.
The injured included one Purshotam Singh who was hospitalised.
The SHO said a parallel FIR had also been registered against the villagers.
