| Solve Kashmir issue in your tenure: Tarigami to PM | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 26 : Urging Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take immediate effective measures to resolve Kashmir issue before his tenure ends in 2014, the Communist Party of India(M) today said the youth of Kashmir expect from the Prime Minister a humanitarian approach to give them hope and security. Addressing a youth rally at Kulgam township in south Kasmhir today, state secretary of CPI(M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said despite significant change in the overall security situation in Kashmir, the youth of the state still face insecurity, hopelessness and bleakness of opportunities.
"The Kashmiri youth genuinely expect from Dr Singh some a steps of significant results to change the lot of traumatised youth in the troubled valley,' he said, adding that if he fails to do so in his tenure, the hopelessness of the Kashmiri youth will be a lingering burden on his conscience. Expressing anguish at the slow pace of investigation into the civilian killings of 2010, Tarigami said the affected families are yet to see justice done. "The government is not moved by the plight of such families who have lost their kith and kin." He said he had written to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for providing treatment to those youth who have lost their eye sight due to pellet gun injuries and despite Chief Minister's assurance the injured youth are still waiting for the government relief.
The CPI (M) leader asked the Centre to strengthen the ongoing peace talks with Pakistan, saying the lingering issues like Kashmir and Siachen are economically and politically a heavy toll for both the countries and all such issues need to be settled amicably for the betterment of impoverished sections of the two nations. He urged Pakistan government to keep the welfare of its people on priority rather than spending energy on rhetoric addressed to her neighbours. Commenting on the recent statements of Army on AFSPA and thinning the number of security forces in the state, Tarigami said the Army as an institution is expected not to exceed its mandate. "However, I feel it is the lackadaisical approach of the civilian institutions toward vital issues that allows other institutions to creep in their domain," he observed. In his address, Mohammad Iqbal Wani, president Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Youth Federation (JKDYF) pledged to launch a state wide youth agitation against corruption and misgovernance in the J&K. JKDYF general secretary Advocate Arshad Baba said his organisation is going to chalk out a comprehensive strategy to press for the demands of unemployed youth. He criticised the government inaction vis--vis rehabilitation of victims of violence in Kashmir especially the youth who have shun the path of violence. |
