Petrol pump robbers gang busted

Srinagar, Apr 26 : Sopore police busted a gang of petrol pump robbers and arrested five members of the gang involved in at least four cases of robberies. Last few months witnessed some seven petrol pumps robberies across north Kashmir. The first incident took place on January 2, 2012 in the late night when a gang of robbers claimed to be armed with pistols made a forcible entry into Auto Care Petrol Pump Sopore and extorted an amount of Rs. 1.44 lakh on gun point from petrol pump employees by threat and intimidation. Another incident took place on January 12, 2012 and petrol pump namely Humara Filling Station at Seelu, Sopore was looted and on January 13 petrol pump namely Khanday Filling station Budgam was also looted under similar circumstances. On 01-03-2012 one more petrol pump located at bypass Sopore was targeted and Rs. 7000/- was stolen by this gang. The similar incidents took place in Bandipora and Baramulla also where two more pumps were robbed by the same gang.Case FIR No's. 10/2012, 60/2012 U/S 392/RPC & 03/2012, 08/2012 U/S 457,398 had been registered in Police Station Sopore and Tarzoo respectively. Investigation into these robbery incidents was taken up by police and a massive manhunt was launched to nab the culprits. On the basis of intelligence gathered from various sources over a period of time, Sopore police was able to identify and arrest the whole gang of five robbers who had been involved in these incidents. The gang used toy pistols to intimidate and threaten the petrol pump employees during night hours and had run away with cash what so ever available in the premises of petrol pumps. The gangsters have confessed their crime and as provided by law by means of an identification parade they have been got identified by the affected petrol pump employees. An amount of Rs. 2.36 lakh which they had looted from these petrol pumps, a Maruti car and toy pistols used in the commission of the offenses has been recovered from them. The arrested accused persons who are under police remand are Wasim Raja Malik son of Bashir Ahmad resident of War pora, Sopore, Mudasir Ahmad War son of Nazir Ahmad War resident of Warpora, Sopore, Sajad Mir @ Saja son of Abdul Rashid Mir resident of Jan wara, Sopore, Akhter Rasool War son of Ghulam Rasool War resident of Warpora, Sopore and Hilal Ahmad Malla son of Mohd Maqbool resident of Malpora, Sopore.
