Shabir Shah placed under house arrest | | | early times report JAMMU, Apr 26: Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) chairman Shabir Ahmed Shah was today placed under house arrest in this winter capital of the state, sources here said. Sources said Shah this morning reached here to proceed towards Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu region to address series of public rallies. As soon as he reached Bhatindi area on the city outskirts the JKDFP chairman was placed under house arrest, they added. The movement of Shah was restricted after he was put under house arrest. Later, speaking to mediapersons Shah expressed resentment and said, "I had to address public rallies in Darhal tehsil of Rajouri district and in Poonch but I was not allowed to move." "Government leaders and ministers can address the public rallies and meetings but we are never allowed to keep our viewpoints before the public," he said. Shah said he was released last year from the Central Jail, Jammu and throughout this period, for more than four months he remained under house arrest. "We want to meet people and express our thoughts. Ours is a secular party and we want people from every section, caste and colour to walk with us," the separatist leader said. He said, "India is one of the biggest democratic set up but we are never allowed to speak. |
