Govt Readies Shift to Summer Srinagar | | | early times report SRINAGAR, Apr 26: One-way traffic will ply on the Srinagar-Jammu highway for two days beginning Saturday as the bi-annual government "darbar" will move to the summer capital here. An official spokesperson said the one-way traffic will ply on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway IA on Saturday and Sunday. "There will be one way traffic on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway IA in view of Annual Darbar Move summer session on April 28 and April 29," the spokesman said. Civil Secretariat and other "move" offices will close this and reopen in Srinagar in the second week of May. The practice of Darbar move, or shifting of the government's base, in Jammu and Kashmir is more than a century old. It was started by the Dogra Maharaja of the state to escape the extreme weather conditions in Jammu during summers and in Srinagar during winters. The spokesman said the traffic will be allowed to move from the winter capital Jammu, where the state government is currently seated, to Srinagar and no vehicle will be allowed from Srinagar to Jammu. |
