JAMMU, Apr 26: In what is being seen as major overhaul of the Police Department at Higher level, the State Cabinet today approved reshuffle and posting of as many as 65 officers , including IGPs, thereby infusing a new dimension in the functioning aimed to make it better and in synergy with the situation of the state. This reshuffle , in which many heads have rolled , was in fact seen as an over due exercise particularly after the government ordered DPCs of a sizable number of Police officers recently. However, there is no change has been effected in the posting of the two territorial IGPs, both in Jammu as well as Kashmir.
The cabinet which met this evening under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah effected major reshuffle in the Police department transferring and posting as many as 63 officers at the higher level including DIGs and IGPs, besides changing SSPs at the district level.
The cabinet also approved setting up of State Planning Board, one of the recommendations of the State Finance Commission, intended to give a long and constructive vision of planning, particularly for providing promotional stimulus to key drivers of the State's economy. The government reaffirmed during the recently concluded Budget session its intension to create this highest level body which will largely play advisory and recommendatory role for evolving integrated approach to policy formulation in critical areas of human and economic development .
However , the key role of the Board will also be that of a mediator and facilitator for devising a framework for allocation of resources for equitable development of different regions across the State, which is the main recommendation of the State Finance Commission. While no decision was taken with regard to reshuffle in the civil administration, yet an important posting is being seen in Pradeep Gupta as Divisional Commissioner Jammu in place of Dr Pawan Kotwal who has been transferred and posted as Commissioner/Secretary, Transport Department.Dr Kotwal is reported to be proceeding for some training course. Pradeep Gupta was earlier posted as Commissioner/Secretary, Transport Department has been transferred and posted as Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.
In one of the issues kept in the agenda for the meeting, the cabinet gave approval to release of Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in favour of Public Sector employees and nod also to creation of staff for the Trade Facilitation Centres at Uri and Chakan-da-Bagh.
In what can be seen as one more vital decision in favour of Jammu, the cabinet also gave nod to resurrection of the shelved project with regard to constructing an International Convention Complex in the winder capital , on the pattern of SKICC in Srinagar. |
