SIC organizes seminar on RTI in JU

JAMMU, Apr 27: To disseminate knowledge about the Right to Information Act amongst the University Fraternity, the State Information Commission in association with University of Jammu, organized a One Day Seminar on "Right To Information" at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium.
G.R. Sufi, State Chief Information Commissioner was the chief guest on the occasion, dwelt in detail on various provisions in the State RTI Act. He further said that RTI is a path breaking Law which empowers the ordinary citizens to obtain the information to keep a check on the Govt. and public authorities. In 2009, the Govt. passed the Right to Information Act an adoption of National Right to Information Act Prof. M.P. Singh Ishar in his presidential remarks said that the ambit of RTI has to be expanded to the private sector and environmental protection laws providing access to environmental information.
Dr. S.K. Sharma, State Information Commission, guest of honour on the occasion informed that the information can be acquired with in a prescribed time limit, by depositing specific amount of fee and writing to an application to the appropriate authority.
The public authorities are required to appoint Public Information Officers for the purpose of Right to Information Bandey Zain-ul- Abdeen and Huma Khan both from the Department of Political Science, Ambika Bhan, The Law School, University of Jammu, Apoorva Jamwal, Govt.
Women College Parade and Abhinandan Singh from the Govt. College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu shed light on various aspects of RTI.
Earlier, Jb. Atta-ur-Rehman Natnoo, Secretary, State Information Commission presented the welcome address while vote of thanks was presented by Prof. N.K. Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare.
Garima Chowdhary conducted the proceeding of the function.
