Pritam Sha-rma, Youth working president, Jagdish Sudan, city president Rajinder Bhagat ,Rajouri President Pt. Ravi Sharma, and Lucky Singh presented a memorandum to DC, Jammu, regarding smuggling of cows and other bovine animals in the state. Pritam Sharma said that these culprits are also working under the disguise of the Gujjars, who in the coming summer are moving towards the high altitude as a common practice along with house hold goods and cattle. These smugglers carry these cattle under the disguise of nomads (Gujjars & Bakerwals) for slaughtering them in the valley as this practice earn them huge money.
He also said that according to Hindu religious sentiments in the state, as according to Hindu mythology Cow is considered as holy and is also called as Gau Mata. It is pertinent to mention here that according to order by the District Magistrate, Jammu, the hassle free and smooth conduct of this annual migration of Nomads, a committee of the concerned area will super wise the loading of cattle in the day time and those certified cattle will be shifted only. The Gujjar families are not very well-off to send their cattle in the trucks or other vehicles, thus these smugglers lure them and send their own cattle in the vehicles. Most of such vehicles will carry the smugglers' cattle in the ratio of 80 : 20, in which only 20% cattle belong to gujjar families.
