Omar fails to strike a chord at Poonch | | | Salil Raina
Poonch, Apr 27: Apart from criticism PDP and the Congress, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah had nothing to convey to the people of Poonch. However, the hapless Poonchies shall remember the visit for a long time-not because Omar mesmerized them by his oratory skill but for the severe restrictions imposed on their movement. Some of the rallies were well attended but Omar had nothing to say except the RTI Act, Sher-e-Kashmir employment package, Panchayati elections and Public Service Guarantee Act. He also attacked PDP and its president Mahbooba Mujfti repeatedly. In one such rally he said: "Mahbooba Mufti can't see the development which we did, because she cannot see the reality with her sunglasses on." Although Omar managed to evoke laughter from the audience but he indirectly admitted that PDP was gaining popularity in the state. He said, "this Government introduced many schemes which are directly aimed at solving the problems of people at their doorsteps. We brought RTI Act, Public Service Guarantee Act. We strengthened Accountability Commission and likewise many historic steps are still in pipeline. A large number of developmental works have been started in Poonch and I don't know why PDP fails to recognize our progress." He even claimed credit for the on-going Indo_pak peace talks. On Panchayats elections, he said, "It was our party vision to strengthen democracy at grass roots level and we are not like PDP which believes in policies of making hue and cry unnecessarily without doing anything on grounds". |
