CGPWA holds annual general body meeting | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 28: Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) of Central Government Pensioners' Welfare Association (CGPWA) was held at Police Officers' Mess Gulshan Ground Gandhi Nagar Jammu today. Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda (IPS) was the chief guest. Nearly 80 CGPWA members attended the AGM; besides a large number of special invitees comprising distinguished senior citizens and social activists. General Secretary of the Association J.K.Vaid conducted the proceedings and also presented the Annual General Report for the year 2011-2012. He informed the house that central government pensioners' welfare association, J&K has been accorded nomination to standing committee of voluntary agencies (SCOVA) in the Notification dated June 24, 2011 by Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and the annual grant-in-aid to the Association has also been enhanced from Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 75,000. CGPWA J&K has been notified as Nodal Association for central pensioners of J&K State and is one of the 28 Pensioners' Associations in the country to get such recognition. On the basis of proactive welfare activities and after an exhaustive scrutiny by the Income Tax Department; the Association has been Registered as Social Charitable Society u/s 12AA(1)(i) of Income Tax Act, 1961 and also the Certificate issued qualifying all donations to the Association for Income Tax rebate u/s 80G (5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, vide Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K, Jammu; F.No. CIT/Jmu/ITO(T)/80-G(2)/51-55/11-12/9376 dated 02.12.2011 (PAN : AAAAC6305K). President S.S.Wazir in his welcome address greeted the Chief Guest, special invitees and the members fraternity and briefly touched upon the welfare activities being pursued by the Association in service of the civil society, in general and the pensioners and their families, in particular. V.P.Sharma, Patron CGPWA, gave an illuminating and well illustrated power point presentation on the topic: 'Himalayan Mountain Chain and Its Impact on Water and Food Security' focusing on the burning issues of highly stressed natural resource: water and the related issues of food security for the coming generations. In pursuance of the high traditions of the Association, three senior members of the Organization were honoured with presentation of mementoes by the Chief Guest on this occasion. R.N.Sharma, IFS(Retd), 1912 born, was honoured as Sarv Sreshth Vrishth Nagrik on completion of 100 years of age. D.N.Kotwal, IAS (Retd), 1927 born, was honoured as Jeyshth Vrishth Nagrik on attaining plus 80 years age and Col. Tara Mani Sharma (Retd), 1932 born, was honoured as Jeyshth Vrishth Nagrik on attaining age of 80 years. Pensioners' Journal 2012, a useful document published by the Association, was released by the Chief Guest along with Office Bearers. Copies of the Journal were distributed to all those present. The Chief Guest in his elaborate address lauded the efforts being put in by the Association for welfare of the civil society; particularly senior citizens and pensioners and promised full cooperation of J&K Police Department in furtherance of Association activities. |
