CDR initiates KP-Muslim dialogue to restore peace in J&K

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 28: Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation (CDR) has taken up an initiative to find out reasons behind the 1990 mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley and also to engage KPs and Muslims in a dialogue aimed at restoration of peace in the region . The CDR has already held three meetings in this regard in the state. The participants made it clear that they did not represent any organization or a party. They said they strongly "believe in socialist, democratic Republic of India and reject any option of secession as propagated by a section of Kashmiri Muslims". Muslim participants termed the exodus of KPs as a black chapter in the history of Kashmir caused by selective killings.
It was consciously felt that, while the happenings in the past two decades could not be forgotten, it had become imperative to learn lessons from the past and move forward in the changing global scenario. It was also felt that 20 years of turmoil had opened up many groups who were working only for their vested interests and creating more complicacies. It was also felt that due to the leadership vacuum in the both the communities, the common man was getting frustrated day in day out. Under these circumstances, creating a joint strong civil society group with the agenda of strengthening co-existence and preserving Kashmir heritage as core issues seemed to be inevitable now. Accordingly, a joint delegation of KPs and Kashmiri Muslims had seperate meetings with Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mehbooba Mufti. During discussions with them, it was made clear that KPs would return to the valley on their own terms and conditions. In this background, there seemed to be no reason for certain self-styled KP leaders to blow this issue out of proportion. Those who participated in the deliberations included Prof A N Sadhu, B L Saraf, Prof Indu Kilam, R K Bhat, Dr R K Bhat, Suinder Pandita, Surin der Ambardar, Prof Usha Tikoo, Prof R K Ganjoo, Prof Neerja Mattoo, Ramesh Hangloo, A K Dewani, Khurram Pervez, Athar Zia, Prof Gul Wani, Nusrat Andrabi, Famida Shah and Bashir A Dar.
