Cong seeks exemption of Sales Tax on agricultural machines | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 28: Vice-President of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Thakur Hari Singh has demanded exemption of Sales Tax on the agriculture machines/instruments used by the farming community and uninterrupted electricity to the farmers, especially during harvesting season. In a statement issued here today, Thakur Hari Singh said that government is charging heavy sales tax on the agriculture related machinery/instruments like Tractors, Thrashers, Harvesters and their spare parts used by the farming community. He said that there is a great difference of prices of these items sold in Jammu & Kashmir and in Punjab. The farmers prefer to buy these items from Punjab but they are not being spared by the Sales Tax authorities at Lakhanpur. PCC Vice President also demanded uninterrupted electric supply to the farmers, during harvesting season, enabling them to cultivate their crops without any interruption. He demanded that farmers of the state should be allowed to purchase agriculture machinery/instruments from the neighboring state of Punjab without charging any Sales Tax. This will increase the agriculture production, benefit the farming community and in the larger interest of the people of the state. |
