Kissan Union stages protest, demands separate 'Agri Budget' | | | Early Times Report Samba, Apr 29: Urging for a separate 'budget for agriculture' on the pattern of Railway budget for making this sector remunerative for the farmers, the All Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Union (JKKU) staged a protest dharna here today. Addressing a largely attended Dharna organized by the All J&K Kissan Union to press for the acceptance of the most genuine demands of the farmers, the Chairman of the Union, senior congress leader and former legislator Ashok Sharma urged the centre for formulating a comprehensive farm policy for the State, so that the losses caused to standing crops, live stock due to drought, and various diseases could be relived by providing compensation for such loss. He stressed that for the purpose, all the crop and cattle be insured on government expenses. He also raised the demands of farmers affected by the dry spell and the hails storm as well. "Besides providing six months free ration, all the effected farmers in Jammu region be given free seeds, fertilizers and other agriculture inputs for the Kharief 2012," he emphasized. All India Kissan Union Secretary Rajinder Singh Paul urged the farmers of India to unite themselves on single plate form to fight against their exploitation. He offered full support to the agitating farmers on behalf of All India Kissan Union. Among those who addressed the Dharna included Satish Dutta, Yash Paul Sharma, R.N Khajuria, J.L. Bhagat, R.C. Raju, Balwan Kumar, Satish Sharma and Onkar Singh. |
