Zaroo family vandalizes environment around CM's house | 3 guest houses in green belt | | Early Times Report srinagar, Apr 29: Three guest houses constructed by influential Zaroo family in the neighborhood of Chief Minister's private residence have not only vandalized environment but pose a security threat to the VIPs living in the area. Pertinently the place where the guest houses have come up falls in the green belt area where permanent structures cannot be constructed. The issue was agitated time and again by the local newspapers and concerned citizens but to no avail. The officials while responding to news reports had assured an enquiry to ascertain if permission was granted for construction in eco-fragile area and why. Reports said the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) has given permission for the construction in violation of norms and objections raised by the Urban Social Forestry Division and Srinagar Town planning. The forest department termed the area as prone to soil erosion while the town planner deferred the construction for want of authentication by registered architect. ''With regard to site of the guest houses we did form a multi disciplinary committee. We wanted to be sure whether required parameters would be conformed to. I will have to get in touch with officials to find out the latest", Said Irfan Yaseen, Chairman LAWDA. Interestingly the construction of the guest houses continued even after Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Resources Dr. Farooq Abdu llah objected to the construction. The Zaroo family claims that they have fulfilled all the formalities and have proper permission for the construction. ''There were constant checkups by different departments. We have got the permission required for the construction", said Saddam Zaroo, Managing Director of the hotel. While the owners say they have cleared all construction and environmental hitches, the documents suggest gross violations of norms. Some people believe that the structures can be a security hazard for the VVIPs who in the area. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Asgar Samoon said that the law of the land must be respected by everyone and assured that he will direct the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to examine the issue. |
