2 held as police foil timber smuggling bid | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 30: Police today foiled a timber smuggling bid at Patnitop by seizing a tempo traveller which contained six scants and 26 planks.The vehicle driver and a person, who was travelling with him, were also apprehended, according to police sources.Acting on a source information, police laid a naka at Patnitop and seized the tempo traveller (JK14A/7333), while it was on its way from Batote to Jammu, the sources added. The vehicle was found illegally carrying six scants and 26 planks, which were also seized. In this connection, police arrested driver Paramjit Singh, son of Avtar Singh of Janipura, and Tasleem Arif, son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat of ward No 3, Batote, and booked them under relevant section of law. During his interrogation, Arif allegedly told police that the consignment belonged to Nissar Wani of Batote, who contacted him this morning and asked him to carry it from roadside at Barthal, Batote, to Jammu.Sources said a manhunt had been launched to apprehend Wani who had gone underground. |
