Kashmiris continue to dominate State politics...... | Is it due to leadership vacuum in Jammu, or New Delhi's appeasement policy? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 30: Is it due to leadership vacuum in Jammu region, or the New Delhi's appeasement policy that Kashmiris continue to dominate state politics and be preferred over Jammu leaders? Jammu definitely is in dire need of a towering leader who is competent enough to lead the masses here, but the others who have carved out an important place for them in the State and national politics are seen nowhere in newspaper columns and TV news channels. But small, worthless and even anti-national statements of any Kashmiri leader hit the headlines of even national dailies. The nationalist voices in Jammu get suppressed, may be in the absence of full-time lobbies on their back. The Jammu voices are given no weightage but the Kashmiri leaders are given undue importance by majority Jammu leaders even when their arguments are not weighty. Even the Central Government and also most of the national political parties have always considered Kashmir as the representative of the whole of J&K. As a result, interests of Jammu and Ladakh regions have always been sacrificed to the advantage of Kashmir region. Accords of 1947, 1952, 1975 and 1986 were made by the central Government with Kashmiri leadership and then imposed on the people of Jammu and Ladakh regions against their wishes. Even at present, in all the negotiations and deliberations being conducted by the Government of India, western countries or by the Pak-sponsored agencies, the people of Jammu and Ladakh regions are given no representation. The other reason for suppressing Jammu is the New Delhi's policy of unduly pampering and appeasing the Kashmiri leadership at the cost of the people of Jammu and Ladakh regions. The genuine interests and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Ladakh have continuously been ignored and national interests sacrificed to appease these sections. The Centre needs to realise that J&K State is not just the Kashmir valley alone and the Kashmir valley is not the whole of Jammu and Kashmir State. It merely constitutes 15 per cent of the area of the State which is presently within the Indian Union. To make the Jammu voice heard by those at the helm of affairs, honest and upright leaders were needed. |
