| MP Govt bestows national award on Pt. Bhajan Sopori | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 1: The Music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori has been awarded the National Award by the Ustad Allaudin Khan Academy, Department of Culture, Governmnet of Madhya Pradesh, for his enormous contribution to Indian music and culture.
The Award named as the National Ustad Latif Khan Samman was presented to Pt. Sopori by Shriram Tiwari, Director Culture, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh and Shri Ganesh Balchandra Bagdare, Director, Ustad Allaudin Khan. The function was held at Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal followed by a grand Santoor recital by Pt. Sopori. Pt. Bhajan Sopori is being hailed as the "Saint of the Santoor" and the "King of Strings", and regarded as the cultural bridge of Jammu & Kashmir with the rest of the country. He has led the revival of Sufism to spread the message of humanism amongst the masses. Having composed over 5000 songs, his compositions and recitals bear the distinctive stamp of his virtuosity and erudition. |
