JSSF demands introduction of Statistics subject in all colleges | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 1: Jammu Statistical Students Forum (JSSF) has appealed to the Chief Minister to introduce Statistics as a subject in all the colleges of the State. Addressing a press-conference, president of the forum, Dr. Sandeep Singh Charak said that the Statistics is presently taught in only three colleges and few government schools in Jammu division at present. Charak appealed to the CM that Statistics is a job oriented course, having great demand in industrial sector especially in industrial research and practice. A recent survey (www. careercast. com) has shown that Statistics has got 4th position amongst the 10 best job oriented courses only software engineer , Mathematician and Actuary (interprets statistics to determine probabilities of accidents, sickness, and death, and loss of property from theft and natural disasters.) are ahead of it. Sandeep said that govt. had started P.G courses at the college level in 2006 and P.G. Statistics was proposed to be opened at Govt.M.A.M College and all the necessary formalities were completed but the department failed to start the said course till date. He also said that the contractual appointments for teaching posts should be made as per UGC guidelines and there should be preference for higher qualification (PhD) and while making permanent recruitment for these posts UGC recruitment rules should be strictly followed and implemented. |
