Allegedly involved in green felling, forester gets new posting | | | early time report SRINAGAR, May 1: A forester, who was allegedly indicted for felling of green trees worth nearly Rs 1 cr in compartment No 2 of Gogaldara Zandpal forests here, has again been posted in the Berwah range. He surprisingly got the posting in the same range where the green felling had taken place allegedly at his instance. He was posted in Berwa range vide government order No F O 40 of April 26, 2012. He joined his duties on April 30, according to official sources. When contacted, conservator of forests, Srinagar circle, Nisar Ahmad Darzi said the forester was not "reinstated" but was only transferred to Berwa. "He had not been placed under suspension and if he was absent from duties, the concerned officers should have brought it to my notice," Darzi added. Regarding his 'indictment' in the alleged green felling and timber smuggling in 2005-06, the conservator said, "Since the case is very old, I have no information about it." He, however, assured to look into the matter. Sources said the official had gone unpunished and had been rewarded with a new posting. He was allegedly indicted in the scam by a special disciplinary committee in 2005-06, the sources added. A letter written by Berwah range office to divisional forest officer, Tangmarg, reads as: "It is informed that the forester had joined this range on 23-12-2011 vide forest order No 65 of 2011 dated 23-09-2011 issued by conservator of forests, Srinagar circle, vide his office No CF/Sgr/2011/C 2037-38 dated 23-09-2011 and the official is unauthorisedly absent from duties from date of joining." Sources said even after his unauthorised absence from duty, no action was taken against him.
