Fake encounter case: J&K HC aadjourns hearing till May 110 | | | early times report Srinagar, May 2: ISTJammu and Kashmir High Court today adjourned the hearing till next week in the alleged south Kashmir fake encounter in which the designate Army Chief Lt General Bikram Singh is one of the accused. A single bench comprising Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir, after hearing the argument from Defence ministry and state government, adjourned the case till May 10. The counsel for state government said the objections filed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Anantnag, in the case be taken on board as that of the state government as well. Defence ministry and state police had already submitted their objections to the petition filed by Zaituna, who has alleged that her son Abdullah Bhat, a resident of Macchil in Kupwara district, was killed in a fake encounter at Anantnag in March 2001 and later labelled as a Pakistani militant 'Mateen Chacha'. However, the objections filed by the defence ministry, said that Lt Gen Singh, who was then a brigadier commanding the 1 Sector Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in south Kashmir, was returning to Anantnag after visiting various army units when at Janglat Mandi a militant disguised as a beggar opened indiscriminate fire upon the army convoy. While Colonel J P Janu and Rifleman Ganesh Kumar were killed, Gen Singh and another officer were injured in the attack. The assailant and two civilians were also killed in the incident, the police report said.
