Enquiry report on Haji Yusuf death case not complete | | | Early Times Report jammu, May 2: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's deposition before the magistrate which was enquiring the mysterious death of Haji Yusuf, NC activist that the deceased was summoned to the camp office at Srinagar for ascertaining the veracity of the complaints of Muhammad Yusuf Bhat and Ab. Salam Reshi against him (Haji Yusuf) cannot be disputed, however, in the latter part of his deposition Omar has left many questions unanswered which the Magistrate enquiring the case was supposed to ascertain. While hushing up the matter, Magistrate Muhammad Akbar Ganai who was then Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and has been now posted as Deputy Commissioner Budgam has wittingly on otherwise has ignored some hard facts and some key witnesses have questioned the very authenticity of the report. One of the witnesses told Early Times that the day he was appointed as enquiry officer to probe the matter, Muhammad Akbar Ganai straightway told him that he (Ganai) was enjoying a good relationship with Abdullah family. "The moment he said this, I lost faith in the enquiry and was sure that this is nothing but mockery to hush up the matter" said the witness whishing not to be named. He said that Ganai even told him that Haji Yusuf was drunken when he was summoned to Chief Ministers camp office on September 29, 2011. " I don't know whether he has reported it or not but he said it bluntly which was far from the truth" he said adding further that he was rewarded for this mockery and posted as Deputy Commissioner Budgam despite being junior. "We cannot contest Chief Minister's statement when he says that all the three were summoned to his camp office to ascertain the truth but what happened after that is known to all who were present including the Chief Minister" he said. Omar has deposed before the Magistrate, "on September 29, 2011, during the State Assembly session, a party worker namely Muhammad Yousuf Bhat of Ganderbal approached him (CM) and complained that another party worker, Syed Muhammad Yousuf of Loktipora Bijbehara had obtained an amount of Rs 84 lacs from him on the pretext of bestowing undue favours upon him from party high command. The complainant was asked to report at the camp office in the afternoon to address his grievance." It is true that Chief Minister had called Syed Muhammad Yousuf to his residence which was followed by some developments which the enquiry officer was supposed to enquire but he has not moved beyond a certain point, said the witness. However, the latter part of the written statement of Chief Minister in which he has said that for ascertaining the veracity of the complaint, all three which include Haji Sayed Muhammad Yusuf, Muhammad Yusuf Bhat and Abdul Salam Reshi were summoned through MoS Home, Nasir Aslam Wani and that soon after listening to them he passed on directions to hand over the case to the Crime Branch and left the meeting hall is incomplete statement. Many developments took place during that period which find no mention. "There are many things which have been overlooked and as such the enquiry is not complete" he said. |
