PDP demands compensation for hailstorm affected farmers | | | Early Times Report Billawar, May 3: Expressing grave concern over total loss of crops due to recent hailstorms and heavy rainfall in Kandi belt of Kathua, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today demanded that adequate compensation should be given to the affected farmers. Addressing series of public meetings in Billawar area, General Secretary of PDP Thakur Balbir Singh regretted that farmers of many villages of Billawar have suffered total loss of their crops due to recent hailstorms and rains but the authorities are not taking the problem seriously. He further said that instead of conducting survey of the most affected villages, officials of the concerned departments were visiting only road side villages just to complete the paper works. Thakur Balbir Singh further said that authorities have fixed only a meager amount as compensation for the affected which was not enough. He demanded that compensation worth Rs 2000 per kanal should be given to the affected families. He also demanded that an extensive survey should be conducted to assess the total loss of the farmers. Singh regretted that miseries of the common masses have been increased manifold after formation of Congress-National Conference regime in the State because this dispensation was non serious in mitigating woes of the people. He said that during the last ten months, this regime has done nothing concrete to solve problems of the masses. "Government is not visible on ground. Everything is appearing only on papers", he pointed out. Dharam Singh, Thakur Randhir Singh, Sudesh Sapolia, Indu Shekhar, S Billeoria and others also addressed the meetings. |
