Desparate to play bigger role in State politics, Azad trying to placate his annoyed supporters..! | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 3: Contrary to his repeated statements of supporting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's frequent tours in Jammu and Kashmir is a clear indication that he is desperate to play greater role in State politics. Although Azad has been trying to enlarge his intervention in State politics, his supporters seems to have no faith on him because Azad has failed to protect interests of his loyalists during the last three years. Ghulam Nabi Azad has realised that without revitalizing sagging moral of his supporters it is not possible for him to create a place for him in the State politics. The Union Minister has been trying to bring all his loyalists together so that with their support he would take on his detractors. The pro-active Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, during this tenure, has given severe blow to the Azad camp because most of the stunch supporters of Union Minister have already shifted their loyalties towards rival faction. First and foremost task before Ghulam Nabi Azad is to keep his flock together because there is feeling among his supporters that except "assurances" the Union Minister has done nothing for his loyalists. Although election of Jugal Kishore Sharma as Member of the Legislative Council is big boosting for Azad, yet his supporters do not have much expectations for him. "Although we are stunch supporters of Ghulam Nabi Azad, during the last three years our leader has done nothing for our political rehabilitation", a loyalist of Azad told, pleading anonmity. He admitted, without hesitating, that except "using", Azad never takes serious efforts to protect interests of his supporters. While comparing Azad with PCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz, he said that Soz has protected interests of his supporters and rehabilitated majority of them. Another supporter of Ghulam Nabi Azad said that they have no option but to support the Union Minister because Soz camp was not ready to give them political shelter. |
