Two more witnesses take U-turn in Srinagar sex scam | | | early times report JAMMU, May 4: In yet another setback to the prosecution in the infamous Srinagar sex scam that hit headlines in March 2006, two more witnesses on Thursday retracted their statements in the CBI special court, Chandigarh, taking a U-turn from their previous statements recorded with police. The duo, Hazara Begum and Mohammad Mushtaq, are residents of Srinagar. Hazara was the mother of the alleged kingpin. They took a U-turn from their earlier statements recorded with police. Hazara said her daughter had neither visited Deputy Commissioner's office in Srinagar for a job nor approached any Minister for the purpose. Another witness Mohammad Mushtaq also turned hostile. Their changed stand has come as a big blow to the prosecution which had been maintaining from the beginning that neighbours of Sabeena had complained of her "immoral" activities. Earlier, at least five key witnesses had turned hostile in the case, giving a clean chit to five of the fourteen accused. In her statement recorded in a Srinagar court in 2006, the victim had accused a former J&K Minister, DSP and a hotel manager of exploiting her on the pretext of helping her in a criminal case registered against her husband. The scam hit headlines in March 2006 after an MMS was found doing rounds in the State. During investigations, it was found that prime accused Sabeena was allegedly engaged in supplying girls to various officials in the State. A number of bureaucrats, politicians and police officials had been named in the case.
