Farmers demand compensation for crop damages | | | Early Times Report BILLAWAR, May 5: The hailstorm, which occurred in tehsil Billawar of Kathua district during the past few days has caused extensive damages to the agriculture and horticulture. The hailstorm has damaged crops in Gurah, Tharakalwal, Notabarota and Thenthu panchyats of tehsil Billawar and caused panic among the farmer community of this area. This hailstorm has damaged Mango to a large extent in some villages of this area where tiny fruit had started to disappear. However, the hailstorm had damaged the crops to great extent and in many villages the tiny fruits also got damaged," said Choudhary Mehmood, a local of tehsil Billawar. The sarpanch of the panchyat Thenthu Om Parkash said he had never seen such a hailstorm which damaged the crops of the area and even after 15 days of this incident neither the tehsil administration nor the MLA of the constituency has visited the panchyats to asses the loss of the farmers. The farmers of the area Huqam Chand, Rajinder Kumar and Shallo Ram appealed the Govt to asses the loss of the farmers and provide them compensation. |
