President should be from J&K: AIMPLB | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 5: All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) today demanded that next President of India should be nominated from Jammu and Kashmir to send a message that merger of J&K with Indian Union is full and final. Addressing a press conference, National Secretary of Board, Haji Abdul Majid proposed name of PDP patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, son of former Maharaja of J&K, Dr Karan Singh, Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah for the post. He said that political parties often talk of secularism and permanent inclusion of J&K with Indian union and they have a chance to show that their statements are not just rhetoric. He further appealed the political parties to develop a consensus over the proposal of Board and confirm the Presidential candidate from the state. "Political parties should support the names mentioned by us, as most of them are known faces in the country who have worked for bringing the state closer to rest of the country, despite facing many challenges", Board members said. "There are some sections in the state who are feeling alienated and if next President is elected from J&K, it will send a clear message to them that Kashmir is inseparable part of country", Haji said. Those who were present on the occasion included Shamasullah Khan, Haji Ghulam Qadir Bhat, Mufti Muhammad Rafeeq, Khurs heed Ahmad Bhat, Qari Ali Akbar, Moulana Muhammad Aslam, Haffizullah Bhat, Chowdhry Abdul Rashid, Sheikh Abdul Qayoom, Mudassar Majid, Pankaj Sangral, Deep Singh, Gurtaj Singh and Kuldeep K Rao. |
