| Entry ban order leaves hundreds of morning walkers disappointed | | JU ground out of bounds for commoners……? | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 5: The residents of posh localities across Tawi bridge feel deprived of a facility they would make good use of in the Jammu University campus to keep themselves fit and active, thanks to University authorities who have imposed ban on entry of 'commoners' inside the academic institution for no substantial reason. While this 'ban' order doesn't apply to the 'crowd' of visitors during the day time, it is being irrationally implemented on those who would enter the campus either in the wee hours or late in the evening , the period when the University is off for any academic activity.
Vast in area and lined up with trees and green ornamental plants on the boundary, sprawling JU campus would offer most ideal place for the morning walkers of areas Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, and even from city areas to breathe in fresh air and enjoy brisk walk in an open, wide and huge ground, sans any irritating hassles like vehicular traffic. The campus would remain abuzz with thick presence of morning walkers , many of them making use of pollution free green environment in physical exercise and even Yoga. The fitness conscious visitors would comprise not only the sports lovers but people of all ages including women and elderly walkers.
But all this activity has been put to halt, with University authorities issuing order to stop this and no commoner being allowed for some time now. This has left hundreds of fitness conscious people disappointed. For they feel they have suddenly being deprived of a facility which they would utilize for years without any hurdle nor would their presence pose any problem or hamper the academic atmosphere of the campus. Interestingly, the academic activity starts in the JU during summer months not before 8 AM and if one talks of the presence of morning walkers, this would get dispersed much before the time classes start. Same would be true for those pouring in during evening hours when the classes are completely off. So one fails to understand what dawned upon the University authorities after so many years that they have snatched away this solacing and peaceful, wide and open ground for the walkers.
Jammu has very few places where morning or evening walkers converge and enjoy walks amidst fresh breeze . JU ground was one among such rare places which would offer ideal space in all respects, without causing any harm or damage to the institutional aura or affecting decorum of the University. With mercury soaring high by the day, those habitual of taking a walk either in the morning or evening converge around the ground and take a walk on the main road as entry inside has been strictly restricted . A sense of involvement as they have developed over the years with this ground for the purpose of enjoying hassle free walks , they are hopeful that better sense prevails on the University authorities in not depriving this facility to them. |
