Jammuites perplexed over approach of Jammu based parties…..!!! | J&K Bank's recruitment procedure | | Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, May 5: Regional discrimination is probably the most sought after issue for the Jammu based political parties, however, the 'gross biasness' with Jammuites in the selection process of Jammu and Kashmir Bank for various posts has hardly attracted any attention of the Jammu leadership. It was widely reported in the section of media that the Jammu youth were once again subjected to discrimination as only 300 candidates from Jammu region were fortunate enough to get a job in JK Bank while their Kashmiri counterparts got a whopping 1300 posts. Even though the 'open partiality' in JK Bank's selection process came to light a few months back, the 'mysterious silence' over the issue by Jammu leaders has rattled the Jammuites. The Jammu people are feeling cheated as their political representatives comprising Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party, Panthers Party and handful of Independents inside as well as outside the State Assembly again failed to highlight the 'favouritism for Kashmir' vociferously. Though Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised this issue in and outside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly immediately after the list of selected candidates was made public by JK Bank authorities, the hopes of Jammu people dashed immediately as the BJP failed to rake up the issue in an effective manner. "Jammuites had pinned hopes on BJP as they were confident that it would compel the State Government to rectify the prejudice of the JK Bank authorities who indiscriminately rejected the applicants from Jammu province, however, Jammu people soon become conscious that the BJP was not committed to what it conveyed in and outside the State legislature," Atul Sharma, a Post Graduate student said. "BJP which always remains in the forefront while championing the cause of Jammu could not raise the issue to the liking and comfort of the region's youth who had high hopes that treatment meted out to them would be dealt to its logical conclusion," he added. When contacted chief spokesperson of BJP and Nation Executive Member of the party, Dr Jitendra Singh admitted that the issue failed to garner the attention of the Jammu leadership to the desired levels, however, he said that BJP has always opposed the regional imbalance and discrimination. "The issue of partiality with Jammu candidates is only a tip of the iceberg of the continuous discrimination being meted out to Jammu. There is also gross regional imbalance even in distribution of Central funds. These issues need to be brought up more effectively both inside the State Legislature as well as outside," Dr Singh said. "While National Conference Government is demanding autonomy for J&K, it is not ready to give equal administrative and financial share to all three regions of the State and neither to the Panchayats," BJP leader added. |
