Govt indifferent towards deaf, dumb children: APHH | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 6: A meeting of Association of Parents of Hearing Handicapped (APHH), J&K was held under the chairmanship of the president of Association Bashir Ahmed Dar at their head office at Shahidi Chowk, here today wherein large number of parents and guardians of deaf and dumb children / persons attended the meeting. In the meeting, various problems being faced by the deaf and dumb children concerning their education and career were discussed in detail. It was unanimously agreed upon that there is not even a single educational institution run by the state for these children which is sufficient proof to say that how these children are neglected and ignored by the government of J&K . Bashir Dar President of the Association further highlighted the injustice with these less fortunate children persons by pointing out that under Disability Act 1998 there was a reservation of 1 % in Government services for deaf and dumb persons (Hearing impair) but in SRO 62, the benefit was given to persons with 40- 60 % hearing impairment ignoring the persons with severe disability of hearing impairment of 100% which is grave injustice with the persons who even cannot express how they were cheated by the law makers or the persons at the helm of affairs. Bashir Dar said that the matter was discussed with the Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo recently. Speaking in the meeting, chief patron of Association and principal of school for hearing handicapped Roshan Lal Bhan said that their deaf and dumb children are physically and mentally fit to undertake any assignment / work, therefore government should encourage and allow these students to undergo trainings in ITI, Polytechnic, Computer courses and in other trades to enable them to earn their livelihood with respect and dignity. |
