5/6/2012 11:31:47 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 6 : The Jammu and Kashmir government will start functioning from the summer capital on Monday as the shifting of men and machinery, associated with the "Darbar Move", from Jammu, the winter capital, to here completed this evening.
The Civil Secretariat and other departments will reopen tomorrow in Srinagar, an official spokesman said.
The "Darbar Move" is more than a century-old practice under which the Civil Secretariat, the seat of the State Government, functions six months each in Jammu and Srinagar towns.
On the reopening of offices , the work will begin from 9.30 am to 5 pm at the Civil Secretariat, the spokesman said. For other departments located outside the Secretariat and observing six days a week, the work will begin from 10 am to 4 pm, he said.
Kashmir-based government employees associated with the Civil Secretariat and other departments, which shift their base twice every year between the two capitals, arrived in the Valley on April 28 and 29. The Jammu-based employees had moved to Srinagar Saturday and on Sunday, the spokesman said.
Restrictions were on movement of vehicles to facilitate smooth passage of government employees from Jammu to Srinagar.
In Srinagar, authorities had freshly painted sideways, and memorials and other key junctions were cleaned and washed.
Authorities have also arranged for 1,285 residential quarters, out of which 780 are being provided to the "Darbar Move" employees while 166 rooms are being allotted to senior officers, the spokesman said.
