Dismissed SPOs serve ultimatum to Govt
5/6/2012 11:32:20 PM
Early Times Report
Ramnagar, May 6 : One-month after unsuccessfully prevailing upon the various senior Police functionaries as well as political top-brass of the State and driving helplessly from pillar to post, an emergency meeting of major heads of political parties, intellectuals, teachers, businessmen, Self Help Groups, NGOs under the chairmanship of R.S. Pathania, prominent lawyer and senior Youth Congress leader, was convened outside Dak Bungalow, Ramnagar, wherein it was unanimously decided to serve last and final ultimatum of 30-days to the government for immediately re-engaging 100-odd disengaged SPOs of Ramnagar failing which a massive public agitation shall be started in the area at the pure risk and responsibility of government. Pathania while addressing the protesting SPOs and people lamented that police-recruits from Kashmir who raised pro-Pakistan slogans in PTS Kathua were never touched. But those patriotic SPOs from Ramnagar who have lost their lives and limbs while fighting insurgency and are now demanding decent wages are being silenced by disengagement orders and criminal cases. It is pertinent
to mention here that about 100-odd SPOs had went on strike in Ramnagar and Police had defused the strike on the promise that their genuine demands shall be redressed to. But once the strike was called off by SPOs, Police has disengaged them and slapped criminal cases against them. The protest meeting outside Dak Bungalow, Ramnagar, was followed with a massive procession through the streets and bazaars of Ramnagar.
Thereafter the procession converged at Tehsil Office, Ramnagar, and submitted a memorandum to government through Sushil Kesar, Tehsildar Ramnagar. S.D .P.O. Ramnagar, Virender Bhat and Vishal Sharma, S.H.O. Ramnagar remained present on the occasion.
