NC spokesman praises of Boss do not mean we are done with AFSPA or NCTC | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 06: NC spokesman Tanvir Sadiq has said the extension of the NCTC to Jammu and Kashmir could lead to unnecessary ramifications. Interestingly, the NC spokesman has linked the proposed NCTC to AFSPA. Is there any doubt in the minds of NC leaders and its spokesman that it is precisely because of the colossal sacrifices made by the army that we have a situation where the NC is talking of AFSPA revocation? Had not the security forces paid with their blood for the return of normalcy in the state neither the NC would have been power today nor would the NC spokesman dare to speak so frankly. The NC and its leaders are within their rights to make political speeches, but these speeches have been made possible because the terror of the militant guns has been fought by our brave men in the uniform. Operating under extremely difficult situations, the cover of AFSPA was not only the need of the hour during the peak years of militant violence, but without the AFSPA the present peace dividends would have been difficult to come by. The talk of AFSPA repeal can only be made in an atmosphere free of terror and fear and if the NC and its leaders are making such a demand it clearly means the atmosphere has been brought to its present level by the armed forces acting under the cover of AFSPA. One is rather bewildered to ponder on the priorities of the NC. Opposing the NCTC is within the rights of any state in the union as such powers are vested in the states under the federal constitution of the state. But, at the same time nobody must play politics with the security of the country. NCTC is a very sensitive and complicated issue and just that a speech has been made against or in favour of the proposed counter terrorism wing does not mean we have done away with the sensitive issue. Its disposal will need much more serious deliberations and brainstorming sessions. Just that the NC spokesman must praise the Boss does not mean that we are done with either the AFSPA or the NCTC. |
