CCI assertion on issues core to Jammu laudable | Must break silence on discrimination by J&K Bank in job share | |
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 6: Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu has done well in taking on the NC led coalition government for issues core to the people of Jammu which directly hit the masses in day to day life. The CCI statement assumes significance in terms of its assertion on a warning note , perhaps for the first time, asking government to improve power scenario in the region and also demanding a reasonable hike in water tax from people, besides addressing other smaller issues concerning masses. That CCI is most prestigious institution of Jammu is an undisputed fact and therefore its role and image also assumes significance in terms of what it says, contends and demands from the government. For this prestigious body is not confined only to economic activity and matters related to finance but its functional dimensions are far too beyond which is why in its latest statement the CCI president has touched upon the subjects a s diverse as power supply, unscheduled cuts, enhancement in water tax and even traffic scene where it has sought betterment by suggesting some workable measures.CCI has also mentioned about the concern over lack of adequate infrastructure for lakhs of pilgrim tourists visiting Jammu,an issue which directly affects and impacts economy of the region. While it is for the first time that CCI assertion is being seen in not only criticizing government for inaction but also in making a loud call for taking up the measures at the earliest, one wonders why Chamber has been silent over the harsh discrimination meted out to Jammu by the government through its prestigious financial institution -the J&K Bank in terms of completely ignoring and humiliating scores of candidates seeking jobs, whom the Bank authorities outrightly reject, write off and push almost to wall in a contemptuous manner. Statistics are there not only the recent ones, but over the years which reflect Jammu has been on receiving end in the job share, despite candidates being over qualified and far more competent than those from other places of the state. The Bank authorities, in other words has this as an undeclared provision in its recruitment policy that beyond a certain number candidates of Jammu cannot be absorbed on any of the posts advertised from time to time. This is a fact known everywhere from political circles to commoners. While political parties and politicians based in Jammu make occasionally make half hearted attempts by raising the matter in the Assembly, which goes in wilderness, given the fact the policy is approved by the government only, commoners who feel direct pinch of this discrimination in not getting due share in the jobs are simply overlooked and ignored as lesser mortals . It is in the backdrop of this harsh reality that CCI has a role to play in raking up this issue with government and J&K Bank authorities in particular as to why Jammu youth are not getting due share in the jobs.CCI and its recently elected new body has this duty also in context of the fact that CCI and the trader bodies which come under its banner have huge stakes in the Bank in terms of dealings in financial transactions. The prestigious body must take up the issue and seek due share for Jammu share as a matter of right, the Bank being the institution that belongs to the entire state. |
