| Police official injured | | Militants attempt to target army convoy | | JAMMU|JAN 28 Militants today made an unsuccessful attempt to target an army convoy by carrying out a grenade attack it on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, official sources said. The militants fired two rifle grenades in quick succession at the convoy at Zaffran Colony in Pampore area, 15 kms from here, in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, the sources said. They said the grenades missed their target and exploded in an open field causing no harm. The convoy was coming towards the city from Jammu and the attack took place around 4.45 pm, the sources said. The Lashkar-e-Toiba claimed responsibility for the attack in telephone calls to news organisations here. Meanwhile, a special police officer was injured in a gunfight with militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district today, police said. A shootout took place between militants and police at Chadroo-Paddar in Kishtwar area this morning resulting in injuries to SPO Des Raj, a police spokesman said. Des Raj was hospitalised. The militants fled into nearby forests after the gunfight.
