Govt's intension not clear on empowering Panchayats: PDP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 7: Charging Omar Abdullah led coalition regime with adopting atypical 'dictatorial attitude,' for not empowering Panchyats, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today asked the Omar led coalition Govt to empower Panchayats to ensure strengthening of Panchayati Raj System in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement issued here today spokesman of PDP Sardar Rangil Singh said that one year has been completed after elections of the Panchayats in the State but the government has not taken any step to strengthen democratic institutions at grass root level. He said a former Minister, maintained during the last one year government has been giving one after another excuse for denying constitutional powers to the Panchayats.Singh said that people of State had voted in Panchayat elections, with a hope, that they would form their own local self government to solve their developmental and other issues of governance at their own. He, however, said that hopes of the people have dashed due to the attitude of the Omar Abdullah led government. Singh further said that intension of the government was not clear on empowering Panchayat elections. He further said that during the last one year government has been delaying elections of the Block and District Committees. He said that government's order was only on papers. |
